Tip #3: If possible, your resume should be no more than 2 pages in length. There are exceptions to this, especially in the case of physicians and other health care personnel.

Tip #4: The main purpose of the resume is to highlight your background and skills. It should be designed to capture the attention of a recruiter or staffing officer and to encourage him or her to contact you to find out more about you. The finer details of your work experience should be left for the interview.

Tip #5: Use italic fonts sparingly. You want the staffing officer or recruiter to read your resume with ease.

Tip #6: Check and re-check for spelling errors. Mistakes in spelling - even one mistake - is the best way to insure that your resume will end up in the "not interested" folder. Most recruiters and staffing officers believe that, if individuals are not careful about the details of their own resume, then they're not likely to be careful about details on their job.

Tip #7: If you have earned a college degree, there is no need to add the name of your high school.

Tip #8: Personal details about your marriage, family, hobbies, pets, etc. are not necessary.

Tip #9: Have a friend, preferably someone with good English skills, read over your resume. It is often easier for someone else to spot errors or omissions on your resume.

Tip #10: Look up resume-preparation sites on the internet. There are many such sites, and they give you further information on how to create a resume that will best represent you.
